If you are feeling well and have no symptoms such as discomfort, discharge, or rash, you can request an Online STI Screen – no appointment needed.

If you have symptoms, questions, are pregnant, immunocompromised, or a sexual partner has recently tested positive, then you should book a Telehealth STI Test. A Specialist GP will call you to discuss your symptoms and advise on the most appropriate testing and treatment.

STI testing generally involves a urine sample and a blood test. If applicable, you may also be asked to take self-collected swabs from the throat, vagina, or rectum, depending on your sexual practices. There is no need to fast, and testing is quick and straightforward. If swabs are needed, the pathology nurse will explain how to collect them yourself.

Most results are available within 2 to 3 days, though in some parts of Tasmania it may take up to a week. We will send your results to you via SMS as soon as they are available.
If you test positive, please book an URGENT Telehealth STI Treatment Consult. One of our Specialist GPs will call you at your scheduled time to provide treatment advice, organise follow-up testing, and assist with partner notification. Your prescription will be sent electronically and can be filled at any local pharmacy across Tasmania or Australia-wide.

Yes. STI testing is available throughout Hobart’s outer suburbs, including Kingston, Glenorchy, Claremont, Rosny Park, and Bridgewater. Once your referral is sent by SMS, you can walk into your local pathology lab for same-day testing without the need for an appointment.

Yes. You can also get tested in regional areas across Tasmania, including Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Ulverstone, and Huonville. After receiving your SMS referral, simply head to your nearest pathology lab at a time that suits you – no booking required.

Yes – all testing and results are handled with full confidentiality. Your results are not added to My Health Record unless you request it. If you prefer, you can also choose to be tested privately without Medicare or insurance to maintain full discretion. All information is managed securely by Australian-registered Specialist GPs in line with national privacy standards.

Yes. Every September, as part of Sexual Health Awareness Month, we offer FREE Online STI Screens in Hobart (no appointment required).

PLEASE NOTE: The pathology tests themselves are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

If you do not have Medicare, additional pathology fees may apply. However, some private health insurers or OSHC (overseas student health cover) may cover part or all pathology fees. Please check with your insurer for details.
