If you do have symptoms, are pregnant, immunocompromised, a partner has tested positive, or you’d like tailored advice, book a Telehealth STI Test to speak with a Specialist GP. They’ll recommend the most appropriate tests based on your situation and sexual practices.

Most STI screening involves a urine sample and a blood test. If you’ve had vaginal (front hole), oral, or anal sex (back hole), optional self-collected swabs are available. You don’t need to fast, and sample collection is usually quick. If swabs are needed, the pathology team will explain exactly what to do.

Many results come back within 2–3 days, but some tests can take up to a week, depending on the laboratory and the specific panels requested. We’ll send your results by SMS as soon as they’re ready.

If a result is positive, we’ll SMS you and ask you to book a Telehealth STI Treatment Consult. One of our Specialist GPs will call you at your appointment time to discuss treatment, follow-up testing (if needed), and partner notification. Prescriptions can be sent via eScript, and treatment is available at pharmacies across Australia. If you’d rather be treated elsewhere, you can request a full copy of your results.

Yes. STI testing is accessible across the wider Gold Coast area. If you’re in places like Coomera, Helensvale, Southport, Surfers Paradise, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, or Coolangatta, you can usually attend a local pathology collection centre once you receive your SMS referral.

Yes. You can generally use your SMS referral at many pathology collection centres across Queensland. If you’re outside the Gold Coast, you can often test in nearby areas such as Logan, Beenleigh, or northern NSW border towns, depending on pathology coverage. If you’re unsure which collection centre is best, choose the closest major suburb and we’ll help you find a convenient option.

Yes — STI testing is confidential. Results aren’t uploaded to My Health Record unless you request it. If you prefer additional privacy, you can choose to test without using Medicare or private health insurance (fees may apply). Your information is handled securely by Australian-registered Specialist GPs and isn’t shared without your consent.

Yes. Every September, as part of Sexual Health Awareness Month, we offer FREE Online STI Screens in Gold Coast (no appointment required).

PLEASE NOTE: The pathology tests themselves are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

If you do not have Medicare, additional pathology fees may apply. However, some private health insurers or OSHC (overseas student health cover) may cover part or all pathology fees. Please check with your insurer for details.
