If you feel well and don’t have symptoms (such as pain, burning, unusual discharge, sores, or a new rash), you can request an Online STI Screen — no appointment needed.

If you do have symptoms, are pregnant, are immunocompromised, have had a recent exposure, or a partner has tested positive, it’s best to book a Telehealth STI Test so you can speak with a Specialist GP. They’ll recommend the right tests (and treatment, if needed) based on your body, sex practices, and risk factors.

Most STI screens involve a urine sample and a blood test. Depending on the type of sex you’ve had (vaginal (front hole), oral, or anal (back hole)), you may also be advised to do self-collected swabs to make sure we’re testing the right sites. You don’t need to fast, and the collection process is usually quick — pathology staff can guide you if swabs are required.

Most results are back within 2–3 business days, though some tests can take up to 7 days depending on the lab and the specific test. We’ll send results by SMS once available.

If anything is positive, we’ll message you and ask you to book a Telehealth STI Treatment Consult. A Specialist GP will call at your appointment time to run through treatment, follow-up testing, and partner notification. Scripts are sent via eScript, and treatment can be collected from pharmacies across Australia. If you’d rather manage treatment elsewhere, you can request a full copy of your results.

Yes — testing is accessible across Greater Geelong and nearby areas. If you live in places like Belmont, Highton, Grovedale, Newtown, Waurn Ponds, Corio, Norlane, or Lara, you can attend a local pathology collection centre once you receive your SMS referral. The same applies for nearby coastal areas such as Torquay, Anglesea, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Leopold, and Drysdale.

Absolutely. You can use the same referral to test in many Victorian regional towns and centres — for example Colac, Warrnambool, Camperdown, Hamilton, Portland, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale, Wodonga, or Swan Hill. Once your SMS referral arrives, you can usually attend your nearest participating pathology lab without an appointment.

Yes — STI testing is confidential. Your results are not uploaded to My Health Record unless you choose. If you want extra privacy, you can also opt to be tested without using Medicare or private health insurance (self-funded). Your information is handled securely by Australian-registered Specialist GPs and is not shared without your consent.

PLEASE NOTE: The pathology tests themselves are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

If you do not have Medicare, additional pathology fees may apply. However, some private health insurers or OSHC (overseas student health cover) may cover part or all pathology fees. Please check with your insurer for details.
